Principal’s Message

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Quioccasin Middle School community! My name is Melanie Phipps, this is my second year serving as Principal of QMS. It is an honor to partner with you and your child through their middle school journey. As we plan for the 2020-2021 school year, our primary focus is to meet the needs of our students, faculty, and community during these unprecedented times.

We begin this school year focused on providing quality instruction, and our theme, “Navigating Uncharted Waters”, acknowledges that teaching will look very different. Our staff is committed to utilizing the available technology to reach and connect with students so learning continues uninterrupted. We also recognize the importance of social and emotional development for middle schoolers. Students will begin every school day with their advisory teacher as a consistent guide for the entire school year. This teacher will serve as an anchor for students and families while providing extra support when challenges arise.

Our mission at Quioccasin is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where the focus is every Griffin, every day. We strive to ensure that every Griffin, every day is finding a way to feel connected; every Griffin, every day is being challenged by new learnings and experiences; and every Griffin, every day knows they have a champion they can turn to. Our diverse population make us a unique school with a variety of social and cultural backgrounds. We take pride in our community spirit and offer programs that foster cooperation, academic achievement, positive behavior, and community connections.

The virtual start of the 2020-2021 school year will not be like any other that we have experienced in our lifetimes. Providing meaningful learning opportunities while attending to the health and safety needs of our students and staff will challenge all of us, but our commitment remains to both priorities. Our continued promise to fostering resilience, perseverance, empathy, and the ability to communicate effectively in diverse learning partnerships will undoubtedly help our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

We realize there will be many questions throughout the school year. As we learn answers, I will keep you informed and connected through weekly messages, our website, Facebook and Twitter page as we navigate uncharted waters together.

We are thrilled to have you as part of the Griffin family! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or suggestions on how to make our learning community even better!

           Go Griffins!
