Fairfield District

Ryan Young

Ryan Young is serving his first term on the Henrico County School Board, representing the Fairfield District. A self-described advocate for change, Young wants to build upon the school division’s successes to ensure that all children in Henrico County receive a quality education regardless of their family’s zip code, socioeconomic status, color, race or creed.

A Henrico native, Young was a member of the inaugural class at L. Douglas Wilder Middle School in 1998 before moving on to graduate from Henrico High School. Young holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice/sociology and a minor in political science focusing on public law from Old Dominion University. While in college, Young interned as a legislative aide in the Virginia General Assembly, where he “discovered the transformative power of legislation in effecting positive change.”

A longtime youth mentor and basketball coach, Young is deeply rooted in the Fairfield and Henrico High School communities, where he recognizes both their incredible strengths and potential for improvement. Young says his profound love for the community, unwavering commitment to youth, and compassion for others ignited his desire to run for School Board. He envisions increased community engagement and parental involvement as a pathway to foster a stronger educational community across Henrico County Public Schools.

Young and his wife Trumeka are the parents of four children, two of whom attend Henrico County Public Schools. Follow Ryan Young on Facebook: @cyblhoops and Instagram: @youngforschoolboard.
